Young people are caring for parents or grandparents, many of whom have serious illnesses like cancer, dementia, neurological disorders and mental illness. The impact on these youth is significant- affecting their school performance, grades, and health. This trend disproportionately affects lower income families which means they most likely can’t afford to hire private caregivers and rely on their children and grandchildren to provide care.
Barely noticed, 1.3 million spend their youth caring for adults.

I feel like this number should be higher than it is.
I agree, Mrs. CapeCare. I think so many families live in this way and the care becomes invisible, to them and to those outside of the family.
